Haitian-American filmmaker and artist Shirley Bruno's films take their point of departure from neglected histories as well as from rumors, dreams, superstitious beliefs, memories both real and imagined.
Shirley's work has screened nationally and internationally at major festivals and contemporary art exhibitions. Her films Tezen and An Excavation of Us are included in the permanent collections of Centre National des Arts Plastiques France, Leal Rios Foundation Lisbon, and Vidéographe Montréal. Exhibitions and screenings of her work have presented at Berlinale, Locarno International Film Festival, Hammer Museum, MoMA, Montréal arts interculturels, La Galerie Municipale Vitry de Jean Collet, Villa Médici Rome, Palais de Tokyo, Maison Européenne de la Photographie among others.
She is the recipient of the William Greaves Firelight Media Fund (2024), Sundance Institute Fellowship (2022-23), Creative Capital Award (2021), the Jerome Hill Artist Fellowship (2019-21). Other funding and prizes for her work include the Abrons Arts Center, Triangle-Astérides, Prix Ars Electronica, Jerome Foundation, National Greek Film Centre, NYSCA, NYFA, StudioPrix Collector Prize. Her films continue to screen internationally on TV5Monde, Tënk, and Shorts TV International. She is an alumna of La Cité International des Arts & LIM Le Groupe Ouest Lab for her feature film debut Just Come \\ Been To, as well as the Berlinale Talent Station for her latest project Fresh/Saltwater Heart, a large scale video-installation and film currently in the making.
Shirley holds a Masters with Distinction from London Film School and a Masters II with Mention from Le Fresnoy - Studio National des Arts Contemporains where she was an artist-fellow. She lives in New York and works alternatively between Haiti and France.

Ses films et images ont été présentés dans des galeries, des musées et des festivals de film majeurs tels que: Locarno, Berlinale, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, Palais de Tokyo, Villa Médicis, Hammer Museum, MoMA, MAI, Triangle-Astérides France, National Gallery London, Maison Européenne de la Photographie, FRAC Dunkerque, Annecy Animation International Film Festival où son film An Excavation of Us a reçoit le Prix Off-Limits, Hamburg International Short Film Festival, Uppsala International Short Film Festival, Hong Kong International, etc. Son film son diffusés sur des canaux différents (Kweli TV, Tënk, TVMonde, Shorts TV International) et obtenu par des collections permanentes (CNAP France, Leal Rios Foundation Portugal, Vidéographe Montréal).
Shirley est actuellement membre de William Greaves Firelight Media Fund (2024). Elle a reçu le Sundance Institute Humanities Fellowship (2022-23), Jerome Hill Fellowship (2019-2021) et le Creative Capital Award (2021) après sa résidence à La Cité Internationale des Arts, Berlinale Talent Station, et LIM du Groupe Ouest. Shirley est en traîne à developper son premier long-métrage Just Come \\ Been To et son film / installation vidéo multicanaux à grande échelle Fresh/Saltwater Heart.
